Embrace Change as a Business Owner

How To Embrace Change as a Business Owner - If there’s anything that COVID-19 has taught us, it’s just how quickly and drastically things can change. Overnight, our country was shut down. Travel stopped, schools shut down and life as we know it was turned upside down.

Now, changes that drastic are usually far and few between but it’s important as business owners we understand the importance of embracing change. Regardless of the services or products you offer, they will have to be updated and altered as your customers change, as the world changes, as technology changes and as the economy changes.

As business owners, we must be adaptable, in both the way we conduct ourselves and our business. If the industry changes or the market sees a shift, we have to embrace the change and find ways to better our services or incorporate new products. If we are aware that change is inevitable and that adapting to the changes is the only suitable option, our businesses will flourish.

As always, embracing change is easier said than done. We must alter the negative associations linked to change. When we think of the change we should think of it as a vital component of long-term success. Without change, our businesses would be stagnant.

Consider the following thoughts when dealing with change:

Give yourself room to imagine the benefits that could be created because of the change

Take the time to think, or even write out, all the benefits that could come from this new change.

Embrace discovery

The reason so many people fear change is because of the unknown factor. This idea of not truly knowing can be scary but it can also be exhilarating. Try to evoke the latter feeling when dealing with change.

Incorporate & account for the change before it takes place

This can be difficult, but trying to stay ahead of the change will help with the level of stress you experience. If a change is anticipated, try to stay up to date on what it entails and how you can incorporate it into your business plans.

Max McKeown said it best “Adaptability is about the powerful difference between adapting to cope and adapting to win.”

Always adapt to win.
